Napa is the ancestral home,
the place where my mom's family lived for nearly a
century, from the 1870s when French Albert Sawyer
arrived from New Hampshire, looking to start a tannery
along the river, until the 1960s when the last family
members drifted away. There are few occasions to visit
now, so it was nice that Sue chose it as a halfway meeting
place to have ice cream on a Sunday afternoon, for Katie's
birthday.
