Family Plot
Napa Cemetary

After ice cream, we drove across the river and up
to the cemetary, the family plot with its sad little
markers for children who never got to grow up and
for grandparents who lived many decades. Up on the
hill is our family crypt, where behind a rusty, locked
gate, two small chairs stand next to a tiny table --
a cozy nook, perhaps, for spirits to settle into,
long after dark, and play a game of gin.
