Witch Burning

A dog owner who we met on Nyhavn our first evening
in Copenhagen told us about the witch burnings planned
for later that week, an annual event to celebrate the
Summer Solstice. We made our way over to Fredericksburg
park on the appointed evening and joined a throng of several
tens of thousands of people armed with picnic dinners. In
the freedom that comes from being a clueless foreigner, we
walked straight to the front and sat at the lakeshore,
arriving about 10 minutes before they set the pyre ablaze.
