Oysters, anyone?

Oysters were kind of the maguffin of this day. They were, supposedly, the reason we got together; the reason why we, and Mitch and Melanie, and a few hundred other folks made their way along winding west county roads on a beautiful Sunday afternoon; the reason why we all packed up breads and soft cheeses, Oranginas and beers, to meet up at these picnic tables along the shore of Tomales Bay, where moon jellyfish can be plucked, harmlessly, out of the warm water by children in bare feet; the reason to sit under the warm Pacific sun and catch up with old friends.

In the end, however, I think few of us ever really slurped down the oysters. I know I braved only one.

But they sure provided the excuse for a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
