This was a complete surprise, compelling enough to draw us off
the road between Winnemucca and Reno. We had no idea what it
was at the time, as there's no plaque or brochures. But subsequent
research online explained that it's a piece of folk art, constructed out
of found objects by
Chief Rolling Thunder (nee Frank Van Zant)
partly out of artistic ambitions, partly as a protest memorial for
Indian massacres.
