Our skipper, Ernie, told Ellie that she really had only one
duty as captain of our 12-meter sailboat, and that was to
make a rousing speech between the 4th and 5th legs of our
sailing race against the two other 12-meters we were racing
against.
When the time came, she didn't shy from that duty: "We are
champions! We are winners! When we win this race, we will
have raced against and beaten Stars and Stripes! That's
bragging rights for life! At any dinner you'll have the best
story of anyone at the table! Unless you go to dinner
with an astronaut!"
After that, we came from behind to win.
