Christmas Shopping on Union Square
San Francisco

It's an (almost) annual tradition, our Christmas
shopping visit to The City to see the store displays
and lights in Union Square. This year, it was still
warm enough to sit out on the square in the late
afternoon and enjoy a beer or hot chocolate -- whatever
your preference -- even in the shade.
We wrapped up the day with moules frites at Ploof,
in the alley off Post street, by my office building. Em
proudly finished off 50 mussels, but she had to keep
fending off the wait staff who kept wanting to clear her
tower of shells. She wanted the prize of seeing her vanquished
victims stacked 50 high.
