Along the Seine

I walked on through the arcade at the Louvre and across
the footbridge to the Left Bank. The Isle de la Cite was
glowing in afternoon light, so I made my way across
Pont Neuf and down to the point. There a group of art
students were painting trees and buildings across the water,
their efforts slowing down as the afternoon lolled along.
Did they know that this was the type of brilliant afternoon,
steeped in artistic purpose and buoyant comradery, that
some of them would likely remember 20 years from now?
