Evening in Portland

Portland surprised us: not only tourist restaurants with more heaping helpings of fried seafood, but a lively downtown district with foodie restaurants, too.
We wandered away from Cy's on the wharf, into the hipster district and looked at several menus. But in the end, we couldn't get out of our heads the Italian street fair we had seen on our drive in. So we walked a few more blocks and joined the fun: Frank Sinatra music, hearty pasta, gelato, happy crowds of Catholic kids, and Ellie's first chance to gamble-- all in the name of charity for St. Peter's church.
