Ninth graders at Montgomery have to commit to an EPIC
(Extraordinarily Powerful Individual Challenge) project,
an audacious goal to pursue through the year. Ellie went
big (against the advice of her cautious parents),
aiming to produce a fundriasing event for Pulmonary
Hypertension, the disease that affects our longtime family
friend, Kathleen Scheffer.
She made loads of calls, getting local businesses to donate
cupcakes, gift certificates, and other goods that she could
raffle off to raise money. She got a local bounce-house supplier
to donate the use of a bounce house, to attract parents with
kids. And she raised about $1,600 on her own. She also spurred
Kathleen's mom to resume her annual fundraising project, which
brought in another $3,000 later that evening.
Well done, lady.
