So asked Ellie, who was as surprised as we were to find
ourselves the objects of some wonder as we wandered
along, our first morning of Spring Break in China. After all,
this was not some western village recently opened to
"other land peoples"; this was Nanjing Road in Shanghai,
China's most Westernized city. Still, we found, while
business folks are common sights, two light-haired American
girls in brightly colored sweatshirts were enough to draw
stares and more than a few requests for photos.
