Labor Day Getaway
Mt. Diablo and Napa
Sept. 1-2, 2012

A random office email offering two nights' reservations
at a camp site on Mt. Diablo salvaged our idea of camping
on Labor Day weekend. How many hundreds of times have I driven
by Mt. Diablo without ever thinking about it or even noticing
its 4,000-foot peak? The 360-degree view from the top is pretty
extraordinary, as was the sunset and the surprise encounter
with a fox eating berries in a small tree.
On the drive home, we looped through Napa for a burger at
Gott's and a look at the old family tannery on Coombs Street.
