Thirty-five years ago, Jen was "banned for life" from Dave's Fox Head in Iowa City, for the unforgiveable crime of taking a glass of beer out onto the steps. Tonight, she returned trimphantly! (Easy enough to do, since the bartender and most patrons were a decade or more from being born when it happened.)
We finally made it back to The University of Iowa, where I obtained my MA in Journalism, for a weekend writers workshop. Kevin and I had been trying since before Covid, and this year it worked out. We stopped in for a couple nights after our extended stay in Wisconsin. It was really good to see it again after all these years. I was surprised Dave's Fox Head was still around! Got to drink with Kevin and Shelli, and even saw The Old Apartment
Afterwards, I thought: this is perfect! Perfect thing to do, way to spend quality writing time with Kevin and have a reason to visit the alma mater.
That's about the time I got the email from the writers workshop: "After 35 years of running the workshop, we have decided ... "
Oh, well. I guess I'm super glad we got to it while it was still there.
