Ellie and I chose fishing over shopping, but none of the
fishing charters rented out gear for fishing from the pier.
Still, the owner of Bonnie Lee Charters,
seeing we just wanted to drop our lines
in the water, took pity on us and set us up with two lengths of fishing line,
two tiny treble hooks, and a tip on where we could pull mussels off the piling,
crush their shells, and use the meat to fish for the tiny perch that live under the
docks.
We didn't catch a thing of course, but did have some excitement when a large, spotted
animal drifted menacingly by as we dropped our lines in the water -- the local pet seal,
it turned out.
