By the time we reached Crete, Greece's economy was in full melt-down.
Stores were taking credit cards again, but offering wild bargains -- which
played to our favor as we loaded up on white, gauzy Euro tops and other
souvenirs.
We took our lunch at a cafe facing the quay, where boats back in with their
transoms up against the concrete pier, European style. As a couple in their
60s gently backed in, the man at the wheel and the woman looking for where
to cast the lines, it was all I could do to remain seated. Finally, I could
bear it no more: hopping up I ran over, my hand outstretched to catch the
line and tie it off on a cleat.
Because... I sail.
