The grooviest way to get from the old part of town (Puxi) to the new garden of skyscrapers over in Pudong is the Bund Tourist Tunnel, a 30-yuan ($3.50) psychadelic descent into neon madness. A soundtrack of whale songs and cryptic phrases in English and Chinese ("nascent magma", "basalt in blue") serenade you as your tram rolls along at 3 mph under the river. Someone in China clearly remembers the old Tron tunnel on Disneyland's old people mover.
