Where the Turks Breached the Wall
Istanbul

Back in Istanbul,
I had been reading about the Seige of Constantinople in 1453,
when the Turks, after decades of trying to get into the City,
finally breached the great walls and poured in and completed
their centuries-long conquest of the Byzantine Empire.
So on our last morning in Istanbul, I went off on my own
up to the part of the wall
where the breach happened, to see the spot where the Eastern
Roman Empire came to an end, where Constantinople fell and
Istanbul rose.
